DOUG ELGIN RETIRES AFTER 26 YEARS OF SERVICE
CHEYENNE – Doug Elgin, senior land surveyor with the Wyoming Game and Fish recently retired after 26 years of service with the State of Wyoming.
Prior to coming to the Game and Fish, Elgin was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. In 1975 he started his career with the State of Wyoming as a field surveyor and construction inspector with the Wyoming Department of Transportation. In 1982 he received his field surveyor’s license and started his own surveying firm. In 1988 Elgin returned to Wyoming working for the State Engineer’s Office and in 2004 accepted the survey section supervisor position with the Game and Fish.
Game and Fish chief engineer Dave Bumann said that under Doug's direction, the Conservation Engineering Branch has provided countless surveys for the Department's owned or managed lands.
“Doug's thorough knowledge of Wyoming's water rights has made him the go to guy for petitioning the State Engineer's Office on behalf of the department for the last decade,” Bumann said. “Moreover, his development of an efficient water rights data base has led to the benefit of many department personnel along with the fish and wildlife conserved."
Elgin has been an active participant in the Cheyenne community volunteering with Cheyenne Frontier Days including a stint as Security Chairman for three years.
