Dawson has been hunter education coordinator since April 2006. During that time he has overseen certification of hundreds of volunteer hunter education instructors and thousands of students who have completed the hunter education curriculum. In addition to his hunter education duties, Dawson was also instrumental in running Game and Fish youth camps and led numerous instructional shooting clinics.
The Game and Fish’s Jeff Obrecht, who worked closely with Dawson at many shooting clinics and education events, said, “In his nine years at Game and Fish, Jim crafted a long-career worth of positive impacts. Among those were the hunter education academy and teaming with the Upton Gun Club in starting the NRA-sponsored youth hunter education challenge in Wyoming.”
Prior to coming to the Game and Fish, Dawson earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree from Colorado State University in natural resources. He also was a biology teacher and soccer coach at Buffalo High School. He and his wife Terri will continue to make their home in Buffalo.
“The mix of Jim’s inherent ‘people personality’ and his teaching background made him a master at creating a positive experience for kids at camps, range field days or in classrooms,” Obrecht added. “That also made it a delight and privilege for me and other colleagues to help him at these events.”
