Umpqua National Forest Fire Update
Monday’s Lightning Storm Concentrated over the Diamond Lake Ranger District
Roseburg, OR – August 19, 2014 – Monday night’s lightning storm resulted in five reported smokes on the Diamond Lake Ranger District, four of which are west of Lemolo Reservoir and the fifth west of Diamond Lake. Fire crews are responding to the smokes. See the Umpqua National Forest Twitter site athttps://twitter.com/UmpquaNF for fire photographs and updated information about fire activity.
People planning to drive on Forest Service roads are encouraged to drive defensively. We anticipate increased vehicle traffic from firefighters and other Umpqua National Forest employees and contractors as well as hunters and recreationists enjoying the last days of summer.
Although the mornings seem cool, the days heat up quickly and persistent dry conditions are in the forecast. Unattended campfires can quickly result in a wildfire. Please continue to take precautions to make certain campfires are extinguished before leaving camp sites.
