Beginning Wednesday, the Helena National Forest will temporarily close the following areas to the public during management operations. During this time, it is prohibited for people to be on or in the area north of Forest Road #647 (Travis Creek Road) in management unit C37 around the Park City Trailhead, specifically located in T9N, R4W, Sec. 16. Also closed will be a one-mile section of the Mount Helena Ridge Trail #373, beginning from the trailhead.
The closure will remain in effect until management operations are complete and the order is rescinded.
These management activities are part of the overall Clancy/Unionville Vegetation Project, and support the stated purpose and need of that project to:
· provide for healthy native forest/grassland communities with a wide variety of native plant species, including trees of varying ages, species and sizes that are more sustainable and resilient; and
· reduce the threat of large scale, catastrophic wildfire by reducing horizontal continuity in wet forest types and vertical continuity in the dry forest types.
If you have questions or would like more informaiton, please contact Bob Culbreth, Assistant Fire Management Officer, at 406-495-3883. Management unit maps will be posted on our website at www.fs.usda.gov/helena/ as well.
