“Nikki brings a love of the outdoors and great experience from the Willamette Basin to this job,” said Alice Carlton, Umpqua Forest Supervisor. “She has experience as a district ranger from an assignment on the Sweet Home Ranger District on the Willamette.”
Swanson, 43, has worked in the Willamette Basin her entire career. While she was getting her undergraduate Biology degree from the University of Oregon she worked on the Lowell Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest doing stream surveys. Upon completing her Master’s degree in Fisheries from Oregon State University, she worked on the Oakridge District of the Willamette National Forest as a fish biologist.
Several years later Swanson took a similar position with the Eugene BLM. Within a few years she returned to the Forest Service as the Aquatics Program Manager for the Willamette National Forest managing fisheries, watershed, soils, and lakes.
In her spare time, Swanson enjoys spending time with her family hiking, biking, fishing, and horseback riding.
