What: Wildland Fire Update
Location: 10 miles east of Stevensville, Ambrose Saddle area, Missoula Ranger District, Lolo NF
Summary – A lightning-caused fire burning in heavy fuel approximately ten miles east of Stevensville on the Missoula Ranger District. The fire continued to spot and become active yesterday in strong winds but firefighters were able to keep the main fire from spreading beyond the perimeter. The fire area is now mapped at 50 acres. Crews will continue today to construct handline and work towards containment. Aircraft are not expected to be needed today but are available. Cooler temperatures and lighter winds are expected to result in decreased fire behavior today
Size: Approximately 50 acres
Containment: 20 percent
Resources: Two crews, Lolo Hot Shot crew module (10 members), two engines, tanker support as needed, two helicopters
Terrain: Heavy fuel; good road access to the east
Today’s Plan: Continue suppression efforts, working toward containment.
Closures: Forest Road #4267 closed in its entirety from Ambrose Saddle (SW¼ Section 22, T. 9 N., R. 18 W) to its junction with Sawmill Saddle (NE1/4 Section 16, T. 8 N., R. 18 W)
