Resources: Personnel-250, Engines-4, Helicopters-4, Crews-3, Dozers-4, Water Tenders-4
Start Date: September 6, 2012
Cause: Human; under investigation
Location: East side of US 95 near Lucile, ID – Nez Perce NF and other lands
Weather: This morning was clear and calm, with temperatures above freezing. Relative humidity of 22% to 30%, high temperatures of 65-70 degrees in valleys and 50-60 degrees on ridges, and west wind at 5 mph is forecasted for today. Because there is little or no transport wind, smoke will linger on the surface throughout the day.
Current Status: Yesterday, fire became more active between Patrol Point and North Fork of Slate Creek, with single and group tree torching observed. However, the fire did not move from the previous day’s location. Fire spread was held in check with the assistance of three helicopters dropping water throughout the day. Along the east flank, and in deep draws, fire continued to creep and smolder. Road repair crews finished work on FR 9320, and sawyers felled snags along FR 9300, FR 9303, and FR 2038. Monitoring, patrolling and mop up occupied firefighters on the remainder of the fire.
Planned Actions: West of Slate Point Lookout, snag felling along FR 9300, FR 9303, and FR 2038 will continue, and repair crews will be gravelling damaged roads. Crews will patrol and hold the fire edge between Patrol Point and North Fork, with the support of helicopter water drops. Air support will be used to cool off hot spots on the east flank, if necessary. The remainder of the fire will be in patrol and mop up status today. Release of excess resources is ongoing.
