Resources: Personnel-369, Engines-18, Helicopters-3, Crews-7, Dozers-4, Water Tenders-13
Start Date: September 6, 2012
Cause: Human; under investigation
Location: East side of US 95 near Lucile, ID – Nez Perce NF and other lands
Weather: This morning dawned clear with temperatures at the freezing mark or below, but no wind. Relative humidity range of 20% to 30%, high temperatures from 45 to 65 degrees, and northwest wind at 8-15 mph can be expected today. Fire behavior is likely to be creeping and smoldering today.
Current Status: Yesterday, fire activity picked up somewhat due to passage of a dry cold front. The north side was quiet, and heavy fuel processing and removal was nearly complete northeast of Patrol Point. Most of the heavy equipment in that area has been moved out. East of Patrol Point, in the North Fork of Slate Creek, a finger of fire moved up the drainage a short distance and was checked with the aid of a helicopter bucket drop. In Nut Basin, a pocket of heat kept crews busy, but was held in place with helicopter bucket drops and water from engines with hose lays. Interior fuels continued to burn between West Fork of Allison Creek and Fiddle Creek.
Planned Actions: Today on the south side, hot spots will be mopped up in North Fork of Fiddle Creek, and wherever else they appear. Road repair will also be ongoing in the same general area. The remainder of the south side will be in patrol and mop up status. The inactive western flank will be monitored, and chipping will continue northeast of Patrol Point, and south of Old Adams Ranger Station. Snag felling will continue around Slate Creek Lookout.
