Weather: This morning was clear and calm, with temperatures at freezing or a little above, depending on the location on the fire. Relative humidity of 12% to 28%, high temperature of 73 degrees in valleys and 55 degrees on ridges, and north west wind at 5-15 mph is forecasted for today. Because there is little or no transport wind, smoke will linger on the surface throughout the day.
Current Status: Between Patrol Point and North Fork of Slate Creek fire moved into stringers of timber among rock outcroppings, burning out the understory. Fire spread was checked in this location with the assistance of helicopter water drops. Along the east flank, and in deep draws, creeping and smoldering fire was observed. Road repair continued on the north side, and sawyers felled snags on one mile of road along FR 9300, FR 9303, and FR 2038. Patrol and mop up was the order of the day on the north side, and the west side of the fire was quiet. Monitoring and patrolling occupied firefighters on the south side.
Planned Actions: West of Slate Point Lookout, snag felling along FR 9300, FR 9303, and FR 2038 will continue. Crews will patrol and hold the under burn between Patrol Point and North Fork, with the support of helicopter water drops. The east flank will also utilize air support to cool off hot spots as necessary. On the north side, road maintenance continues. The remainder of the fire will be in patrol and monitor status today.
