Resources Assigned: Northern Rockies Incident Management Team, Doug Turman, Incident Commander
Personnel- 567, Engines- 26, Helicopters- 5, Crews- 12, Dozers- 14, Water tenders- 13
Start Date: September 6, 2012 Cause: Human, under investigation
Location: On the east side of Highway 95 near Lucile, ID
Current Status: On the south side, fire was active Sunday north of Chair Point Lookout, but increasing cloud cover and humidity, along with helicopter bucket drops, enabled firefighters to stop any significant movement. South of Chair Point, dozer line was completed near Deep Saddle. Backing fire along Allison Creek was checked by engines and hand crews, and chippers cleaned up debris along FR 2007. Contingency dozer lines east of Allison Creek on Keating Ridge are complete. On the northeast corner, hand crews finished line preparation along FR 243. Hand crews, feller/bunchers, and skidders prepared line along FR 398 toward FR 221. Mop up continued around Patrol Point. The west side of the fire remained in suppression repair status. Smoke dispersed enough for helicopters to make several bucket drops yesterday.
Planned Actions: Today, crews, feller/bunchers and skidders will continue line preparation along FR 398. The west side, from south of John Day Creek to north of Slate Creek, is in repair status. A felling crew will be removing snags along Slate Creek Road. Check line will be constructed west of the West Fork of Allison Creek. There has been very little movement on the east side of the fire, from North Fork Slate Creek Campground south to upper Allison Creek. This section remains unstaffed but monitored. Structure protection will be maintained where appropriate. Helicopters will be used to drop water where necessary, conditions permitting.
A community meeting will be held tonight, September 24 in White Bird, ID at the White Bird IOOF Hall, 6 pm PDT.
Forest Service- The restricted area begins at the Forest Boundary of CR/FR 243, then east along FR 243 to the junction of FR 221 at Four Corners, from the junction of FR 221 and FR 243 south to Rocky Bluff Campground, from the Rocky Bluff Campground south along the Wilderness Boundary to the Salmon River at Carey Creek, from Carey Creek west along the Salmon River and CR 1614 to the Forest Boundary near Island Bar, and then north along the Forest Boundary to CR/FR 243.
BLM- The BLM has issued a closure to all boating on the Salmon River from the Lucile boat ramp downriver to Twin Bridges for public health and safety.
Weather: Today’s winds will be from the north at 6-12 mph. The lowest relative humidity will be about 30%, and the predicted high temperature about 70 degrees. The incident meteorologist reports that there is a chance of isolated showers on the fire today, which may lessen fire activity.
