There are eight units within the Brockover and Devil Creek 2 burn planning areas. The units range in size from 43 to 145 acres. Ignition operations may take place over several consecutive days. The units consist of ponderosa pine and Gambel oak forests. All of the units have received previous fuels-reduction treatments.
Burning operations will be conducted by district personnel and other fire resources from the San Juan National Forest. The purpose is to reduce hazardous ground fuels, reduce the risk of unplanned catastrophic wildfire and restore ponderosa pine ecosystems.
Some area trails may be closed on burn days and immediately following burning. For additional information, please contact Fred Ellis, Assistant Fire Management Officer (Fuels), Pagosa Ranger District (970) 264-1541.
