Fire Update: A local Type 3 organization assumed command of the Johnson Bar fire on 8/25. The Incident Command Post is located at the Fenn Ranger Station, and the fire camp is located at Johnson Bar Campground. Warmer, drier weather this week has caused an increase in fire activity and smoke. Fire personnel are focused on keeping the fire from spreading by using lookouts to actively monitor the fire and by using helicopter water drops as necessary. Other fire resources are being used to cut hazard trees and chip debris along roads and to facilitate rehabilitation efforts where the fire is no longer active and there is no risk of fire spread. The public should be advised of the potential for falling snags along roads and river corridors (Selway & Clearwater) that have been affected by the fire, as well as the potential for helicopters to be dipping water from the Selway and Clearwater Rivers. A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Fenn Ranger Station Visitor Center. Agency Administrators, Fire Management Personnel and Public Information Staff will be providing an update on the Johnson Bar Fire and will be available to answer questions from the public.
