The project includes an improved concrete barge ramp at Lucerne near the existing Lady of the Lake ferry dock along with construction of gravel “laydown” areas for material storage. The new barge ramp will be approximately 200 feet long.
“Existing barge ramps in the area are lake level dependent and too small to adequately provide transportation support for the remediation efforts,” said Holden Mine Assistance Remedial Project Manager Jolene Gosselin-Campbell.
“The new ramp will provide the ability to safely load and unload heavy equipment and construction materials year round,” said Gosselin-Campbell.
Three potential locations were considered and evaluated for the Lucerne barge ramp--the Lady of the Lake dock area, the Lucerne Boat Club barge ramp area, and the US Forest Service ramp and dock area. The Lady of Lake dock area was selected as the most appropriate site.
Ramp construction is scheduled to occur between March and May. The ramp contractor, Pool Engineering, Inc., plans to take advantage of the low springtime lake level and complete the work prior to the summer construction season.
The Lady of the Lake ferry will continue to operate and has proposed a revised schedule for April. Please go to www.ladyofthelake.com for the ferry schedule.
