On Sunday, firefighters completed mopping up hot spots 150 feet into the fire perimeter, southwest of Allan Mountain in Idaho. Fire containment has again increased due to the efforts along Hughes Creek in this area. In Montana, crews completed fire line between forest road 185 to the Chrandal fire area. Mop up work in the Gattin Ranch has been successful and no hot spots were detected today. Light smoke was spotted along the ridge tops in this area, well within the fire perimeter.
Evacuation orders for Hughes Creek and Alta Creek Roads, on the Montana side, will be lifted today, October 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
Rehabilitation work is complete on the Salmon-Challis National Forest and will be complete on the Bitterroot Forest over the next few days. A local Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation (BAER) Team has begun to assess rehab needs along the Salmon River corridor. Within the next few days, a regional BAER Team will begin the larger task of assessing rehab needs over the entire fire area.
Hotter and drier conditions are predicted for today, which could increase fire activity in the interior. Northwest winds however, will cause the fire to burn back into itself.
