Forecast: RED FLAG WARNING for scattered Dry Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. High pressure will weaken slightly today. In addition to lightning, storms will contain little rainfall and gusty outflow winds up to 40 mph. Thunderstorms are expected between 1500 and 2000. Lightning Activity Level (LAL) 3; Haines Index 4.
Remarks: The Mustang Fire will continue to back into the Salmon River drainage and east toward Spring Creek and north toward Montana. Over the next 24 hours, the fire is expected to reach Spring Creek. The Lost Packer Fire will continue to grow south along the river and move west of Corn Creek. Both fires will continue to spread along the Oceana Ridge toward Gattin Ranch. Over the next 48 hours, the Mustang Fire is expected to spread to Indian Creek and Mt. Dutchman. Air operations resumed due to significant improvement in smoke dispersion. The Goat Fire was assessed and no smoke was visible. Aerial reconnaissance determined that the Beartrap Lookout was lost in the fire. Fire resources provided assistance to the Carmen Fire initial attack west of North Fork.

Salmon River Access: The Salmon River remains open to rafting and jet boat recreationists. All recreationists are required to stop at the North Fork Ranger Station prior to proceeding down river. The Salmon River road remains open to local residents and river recreationists; however, all launches for the main stem of the Salmon River are from the Cove Creek Boat Launch. The general public is discouraged from using the road due to heavy vehicle use associated with fire suppression and rolling debris. The Spring Creek Road (#038) is closed from the Salmon River Road (#030) to State Line Road (#044). State Line Road (#044) is closed to Horse Creek Road (#065). Horse Creek Road (#065) is closed from Spring Creek Road (#038) to the Gattin Ranch. Horse Creek Campground is closed.
