Grizzly Fire grows to 850 acres; containment expected Sunday

McCall, ID –The Grizzly Fire, burning on private land, approximately 6 miles north of Cambridge, Idaho, has grown to approximately 850 acres.  Multiple fire resources responded to the fire yesterday and worked quickly from the air and ground to limit the spread of the fire and protect homes and other structures.  This human caused fire is still under investigation.

Management objectives for the fire today:

• Public and firefighter safety is the highest priority.
• Limit the spread of the fire to the west into Rush Creek drainage; keep fire north of Cow Creek Road and south of the Forest boundary.
• Protect structures adjacent to the fire perimeter.
• Minimize damage to private property

A voluntary evacuation went into place yesterday afternoon for the homes in the immediate vicinity of the fire off of Cow Creek Road but all residences returned to their homes by 10:30 last night. 

Fire fighters from multiple agencies continue to improve control lines and mop up the fire.               Resources include 6 engines, 14 smokejumpers, 5 helicopter rapellers, 2 bull dozers, 1 helicopter, as well as two 20 person hand crews and 1 hotshot crew.

The weather is due to get warmer and drier over the coming days with high winds and a chance of thunderstorms on Sunday.  Fire resources will be working to secure the fire perimeter today in advance of this incoming weather.

Fire managers are estimating that the fire will be 75% contained by 6 p.m. this evening with full containment by 6 p.m. tomorrow evening.
