The recent moisture and anticipated cooler weather conditions have helped reduce the risk of a new fire starting in these areas. Outside of the Lee Metcalf and Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Areas, Stage I Fire Restrictions were in effect on the Gallatin Forest and Stage II Restrictions on the Beartooth Ranger District for a good portion of the summer.
Because the recent moisture was fairly scattered across the landscape, fire officials ask that everyone continue using extreme caution when recreating or working in woods to decrease the chance of fires. Remember to bring a bucket, water, shovel and to always leave your campfire dead out, which means no heat to the touch.
