There will be a presentation at 4:30PM on January 17, 2014 In the Caribou Room of the Day Lodge at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. The emphasis will be on Doug’s great contribution to avalanche education. Bill Williamson, Schweitzer Mountain Manager and American Avalanche Association Vice President, will present the history of avalanche control in the U.S. This will be followed by John “Oly” Olson presenting Doug’s early involvement with avalanche work at Alta, Utah and instrumental role as the National Military Artillery Coordinator for avalanche control, which later evolved to include the National Avalanche Center. Concluding the 45 minute program will be Kevin Davis, Director of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center, explaining IPAC’s avalanche program and presenting the Abromeit Avalanche Scholarship, where the Friends of IPAC will send one student each winter to a level 1 avalanche course.
