The National Weather Service is predicting that Friday afternoon through Saturday morning a strong cold front will bring periods of moderate to heavy snow (mainly to the higher terrain and mountain passes) along with potential periods of gusty winds. If the current weather forecast materializes the avalanche hazard is expected to escalate, especially on Friday night and Saturday.
When have had weeks of no change in the avalanche hazard evaluations and there may be a danger of complacency. The last two FAC advisories have indicated a concern for triggered slides. Please adjust your “go for it” meters if we get significant new loading from new snow accumulations, wind transport, or both. If this weekend’s storm cycle hits our region, stay on low angle sheltered terrain and avoid steep open slopes. Please tune into the FAC advisory for this Saturday, February 23.
