The current acreage is estimated at 1000 acres; winds of 10-15 miles per hour have pushed this fire in a northwesterly direction into the lava field. Eleven agency initial attack engines and an agency bull dozer have been dispatched to the fire. The Jordan Rural Land Fire Protection has also sent resources to assist in the effort.
Five single engine air tankers have been attacking the fire with retardant until darkness forced them to shut down. Two helicopters have been providing water drops in support of the engine crews attacking the fire and providing structure protection.
One heavy air tanker successfully dropped retardant before darkness descended this evening. Two type 2-20 person hand crews have been ordered; an addition bull dozer, two water tenders, ten additional engines and supervisory fire personnel are expected to arrive by morning.
Fire investigators have been sent to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. As more information becomes available additional press releases will be sent out.
