The Timber Creek A-Frame has suffered structural damage and vandalism and has exceeded its useful life and currently poses a health and safety risk to occupants. Safety and engineering surveys on the cabin have deemed the cabin unsafe to inhabit. Identified safety issues include clearance around flues, deteriorated flashing on chimneys, lack of access support, load ratings, ingress/egress for lofts, and extensive habitation by rodents.
The decommissioning and removal is planned to occur this spring. Due to the remoteness of the site, all available tools are planned to be utilized in the cabin removal including pack horses and helicopter for removal of bulkier items. Use of the helicopter will be incorporated with long-line training missions. Fire will also be used to dispose of non-hazardous, burnable materials and smoke will be visible during removal operations.
The Timber Creek A-Frame is located on the Leadore Ranger District approximately 12 air miles SSW of Leadore Idaho. Questions regarding the removal of this administrative cabin may be directed to Jay Winfield, Salmon/Cobalt and Leadore District Ranger, 207-756-5247.
