Start Date: September 6, 2012
Cause: Human; under investigation
Location: East side of US 95 near Lucile, ID – Nez Perce NF and other lands
Weather: This morning dawned clear, and calm with below freezing temperatures. Relative humidity of 15% to 30%, temperatures from 45 to 65 degrees, and north wind at 20 mph is forecast for today. Although fire is relatively inactive, it is not going out, due to very low humidity.
Current Status: Yesterday, fire burned primarily in heavy fuel concentrations, and was creeping along uncontrolled fire edges. On the north side, heavy fuel processing and removal neared completion northeast of Patrol Point, and road repair work has begun. Contingency line was completed northeast of Skookumchuck Work Center. Helicopters continued to drop water on the eastern flank, and on uncontained fire edge east of Patrol Point. Chipping is almost complete along FR 243, and engines doused a spot fire along North Fork of Slate Creek. Between FR 9300 and FR 9303, sawyers felled snags, and mop up continued in upper Fiddle Creek. A segment of containment line was constructed east of Fiddle Creek.
Planned Actions: Today on the south side, containment line construction will continue on the ridge from West Fork of Allison Creek to north of Chair Point Lookout. The remainder of the south side will be in patrol and mop up status. The inactive western flank will be monitored, while chipping and woody debris removal will continue on the north and northeast sides. Crews will continue to work on active fire in North Fork of Slate Creek, east of Patrol Point. Snag felling will continue between FR 9300 and Fr 9303. As some operations are completed, resources excess to our needs are being released. Helicopters will drop water wherever needed.
