Due to low water levels at the lake, the existing boat ramp is approximately 30 feet from the waterline. The water level in the lake has decreased since 2011, which makes launching small boats difficult without high-clearance vehicles. The Quemado Ranger District is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to extend the existing boat ramp 30 feet.
Emily Irwin, Quemado District Ranger says, “We appreciate the public’s patience while the boat ramp is temporarily closed. Completing this work now will increase long-term accessibility for boat launching in the future, especially during dry years.”
