JOHN DAY, OR- The Strawberry Complex experienced very minimal growth over the weekend; resources continue to work the two fires burning within the wilderness.
The High Lake Fire remains at 110 acres and is located near Roads End Trailhead; crews’ hard work has held the fire in check and efforts for containment continue. Air resources provided water dropsSunday to help strengthen lines and knock down any flare ups.
The Pine Creek Mountain Fire, estimated to be 30 acres, is located south of the Pine Creek Trailhead is now contained and is in the mop up stage.
For public and firefighter safety, please remain out of the area and be aware of increased traffic as crews travel to and from the incidents. Due to the increased fire activity in the wilderness, officials are advising the public to not hike and or camp within the wilderness until conditions improve.
Initial Attack resources caught a breather Sunday as no new incidents were reported on the Forest; crews remain prepositioned and prepared to respond as needed. Thunderstorms are predicted to return to the area starting Wednesday and continuing into the weekend.
