“The salvage timber sale has been completed, so now we would like to offer to the public, access to this area to gather firewood.” said Halemeier “Off road vehicle travel is not permitted within the burn area but, there is plenty of downed and decked material along the side of and just a short distance off Forest roads 15 and 16 for folks to gather.”
Cutting of firewood is not normally allowed along this portion of Forest Road 15 or 16. Persons will be allowed to cut only along those sections of the 15 and 16 roads that lie within the Parish Cabin burn. The public is reminded that, as part of the closure in place from the 2012 wildfire, no off road vehicular travel is permitted.
Persons that visit the area are advised to exercise extreme caution, as the danger of falling trees and burned out stump holes remain a threat.
Visit any Malheur National Forest office to obtain a current firewood permit, which are valid through Dec. 31, 2013.
