Wildfire Update: Papoose Fire

Location: Papoose Creek, North-Fork Ranger District, about 40 air miles west of Salmon, ID

The last scheduled boat patrol by Papoose Fire personnel on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River will occur Tuesday and Wednesday. Crews will monitor fire activity and check campsites for hazards, including rolling debris. Activity on the Papoose Fire was minimal Monday. A red flag warning remains in effect until 9 pm this evening for gusty winds and low humidity. The fire is creeping in grass, brush and small timber stands in steep, rocky, inaccessible terrain. An Emergency Area Closure remains in effect to mitigate risks that the Papoose Fire may pose to forest visitors. The Waterfall Trail and South Fork Waterfall Trail closure has been terminated, and these trails are now open for public use.
Fire crews have posted closure announcements at trailheads.
There were no new fire starts detected on the Salmon-Challis National Forest Monday.
The 27,034-acre Gold Pan Fire on the Bitterroot N.F. is burning about 40 miles northwest of the town of North Fork. The 22,753-acre Lodgepole Fire is burning about eight miles west of Challis. The 149,384-acre Pony Complex is burning on the Boise N.F. about 12 miles northeast of Mountain Home. The 104,457-acre Beaver Creek Fire on the Sawtooth N.F. is burning northwest of Hailey.
