“The SMNRA is continuing its effort in reducing hazardous fuel levels located in WUI areas, areas where the forest abuts residential areas, for the benefit of the public as well as private, state, and federal stakeholders,” said Genny Wilson, Acting SMNRA Manger.
On August 30, 2012, SMNRA staff will hold a public forum to discuss the proposed project and welcomes any interested individuals to come to the Mt. Charleston Public Library, 75 Ski Chalet Place, Mt. Charleston, NV 89124, from 5 to 7 p.m. The SMNRA fuels’ staff will conduct an overview of the project’s Purpose and Need, Proposed Action, and allow an opportunity for written public comment.
This project is authorized under the Healthy Forest Restoration Act (HFRA) and is subject to a pre-decisional administrative review, or “objection” process (36 CFR 218) instead of the administrative appeal process (36 CFR 215). Public collaboration and input by way of this public forum is very important in the pre-decisional review process.
The project scoping document can be viewed now at http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/htnf/projects. This document provides a project overview and will cover the majority of what will be discussed at the session on August 30, 2012.
