Today, crews worked to secure the perimeter. Dozers and hand crews built over two miles of fire line to establish 50% containment. Mop-up operations are complete around some of the structures. The fire size remains at 675 acres.
Resources will patrol fire throughout the night and tomorrow crews will continue to build line and mop-up.
Resources for tomorrow are 59 personnel and 6 engines. This includes the twenty-person crew that arrives Thursday morning.
The fire continues to creep and smolder in pockets of brush; however, structures are no longer threatened.
With the number of fire vehicles on the road, the George Grade and Kettenbauch Grade at Cottonwood Creek Road are closed to the public. Local traffic is advised to use caution when driving these roads.
The fire is 18 miles east of Lewiston. Six structures have burned. The fire was reported at 3 p.m. August 19, 2013 and the cause is under investigation.
The Idaho Department of Lands Craig Mountain Forest Protective District is managing the fire. A Type 3 Incident Management Team is in place under the leadership of Gene Phillips.
