Twin Falls District Fire and Aviation invites members of the media to visit the flight crews at the Airbase on Thursday, August 29 at 10:00 a.m. We will meet at the gate to the Airbase, and caravan through so you can have an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the tankers. Please RSVP to Heather Tiel-Nelson. **Due to the fire schedule, the tankers could get called up to support an off-District fire at a moment’s notice. We will notify those who have RSVP’d if we need to cancel the visit.
Air support for wildland fires is a blessing when tackling extreme fire behavior in rough terrain. Air support ranges from helicopters to Single Engine Air Tankers (SEAT) and large air tankers like Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS). These air tankers can hold up to thousands of gallons of water or retardant.
