The nature walks will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday June 29 and Saturday July 13. A variety of natural features will be discussed. The area is known for its rich diversity of flowers, birds and butterflies.
In addition, six butterfly interpretive walks are planned. The butterfly walks will begin at 10 a.m. and are scheduled for: Saturday July 6, Thursday July 11, Thursday July 18, Saturday July 20, Thursday July 25, andSaturday July 27.
Each outing will be about two hours long on moderately steep terrain at approximately 6,800 feet elevation. The walks are open to the public; however registration is requested by contacting the Mountain Home Ranger District at208-587-7961. Early registration is encouraged as the walks are expected to fill quickly.
Sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, water, snacks, and a light jacket are recommended for the walks. Binoculars are optional but helpful. The walks are free however there is a $5 day use fee per vehicle at Shafer Butte.
The Shafer Butte Picnic Area is approximately 3 miles past the Bogus Basin Ski Area. Turn right at the signed road junction and proceed to the Shafer Butte Picnic Area, adjacent to the Mores Mountain Trailhead. Bogus Basin Ski Area is located approximately 16 miles north of Boise on Bogus Basin Road.
