This effort aims to protect the Lamar River Drainage in Yellowstone National Park from invasion by these species and to provide a secure area for establishing a population of nonhybridized Yellowstone cutthroat trout in a major drainage to the Lamar River. Once the removal has been conducted, pure Yellowstone cutthroat trout from the best available source will be restocked into the drainage.
