Baker City, OR. In celebration of National Fishing Week, Free Fishing Day events for children will be held in La Grande and Enterprise on Saturday June 1, 2013; and in Baker City on June 8, 2013. No license is required for anyone who wants to fish during the annual Free Fishing Weekend June 1 and 2; however all Oregon fishing regulations still apply.
Participants at the June 8 event ages 13 and under do not need a fishing license, but all persons 14 years or older must have in possession a valid Oregon angling license. Licenses must be purchased ahead of time.
Children attending the events must be accompanied by adults. Remember to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, sunglasses, drinking water, and rain gear. Event organizers are looking for volunteers to help with lunch, registration, fishing techniques, contests, and other tasks. Those interested in helping or needing further information, should contact the event organizer in their community.
La Grande - June 1: Morgan Lake - 8:00 to 12:00
The Union County area Free Fishing Day will be held at Morgan Lake, southwest of La Grande. The lake will be freshly stocked with feisty trout. Bring a fishing rod and tackle and try to catch a big fish. Loaner fishing rods will be available. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish in each age group. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided for participants and their families. This event is for youth 12 years old and younger.

Enterprise - June 1: Marr Pond - 10:00 to 2:00
Free Fishing Day in Wallowa County will be at Marr Pond in Enterprise. Children should bring their fishing rods, favorite lure, enthusiasm, and be prepared to catch the big fish! Loaner rods and bait will be available for those who need them. There will be prizes for the fishing and casting contests. A hot dog lunch will be provided. There will be painting, coloring, and hands on educational activities for all ages.
This event is made possible by local civic organizations, individuals, and businesses. Employees from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Nez Perce Tribe, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, along with local volunteers, are assisting with the event. Baker City - June 8: Highway 203 Pond - 9:00 to 12:00 (I-84, Medical Springs Exit 298)
Baker County youth and their families are invited to participate in the annual Baker City Kids Free Fishing Derby. Each child should bring fishing gear and bait. A limited amount of fishing rods and bait will be available to participants that don’t have their own. A free hot dog lunch will be provided.
