Summary: During the night firefighters made good progress on the south and western sides of the fire. Today, firefighters are taking advantage of the cooler morning temperatures, higher humidity and calmer winds to build fireline along the eastern side and work towards the north to box in the fire. Air tankers and helicopters will continue to assist with fire retardant and water drops throughout the day as needed.
The goal is to keep the fire north of FS Road 9381, west of Billy Johns Trail, east of Hells Canyon Creek and south of White Pipe Ridge.
The Hells Canyon fire is currently burning in grass, brush and beetle infested pine. It is burning towards the north away from the Hells Canyon cabin. Firefighters are providing for firefighter and public safety in managing this fire.
The Forest is considering road and an area closure to provide firefighter and public safety.
