As with any active timber sale, once a unit is prepped and layout finished there is no firewood cutting until the timber sale is completed. The sale of the timber units includes blow down and commercially viable timber. As such the Red Lodge Creek drainage and all parts of the Forest along Red Lodge Creek Loop Road (#2141) are not available for gathering firewood.
“Many areas surrounding Red Lodge remain open, including up the West Fork of Rock Creek,” said Jeff Gildehaus, Outdoor Recreation Planner, Custer Gallatin National Forest. “Firewood cutting does require a permit, easily obtained at the district office for $5/cord (minimum of four cords).
