The first site is located near Deer Peak in the West Pioneers Inventoried Roadless Area (IRA) which is also a Wilderness Study Area.
The second site is located near the top of Dickie Peak in the Granulated Mountain IRA north of Wise River. Currently, there are permitted temporary communications repeaters at these locations that have been tested to determine the effectiveness of the locations.
These proposed changes would not require any ground disturbing activities; however, future plans may include an improved shelter and taller equipment support if needed to keep the equipment out of the snow. No more than two helicopter flights would be required to replace the existing shelter with a taller one. Flights would be planned after July 4 to reduce disturbance to wildlife. More information about this proposal is posted online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/bdnf/projects.
