Location: 2 miles southwest of Red Lodge, MT along the West Fork Rock Creek.
Current Size: Approximately 400 acres
Resources Assigned: Seventy personnel staffing seven engines, two water tenders, two type II initial attack crews and supporting overhead are on the fire today. The West Fork Fire is under unified command between Red Lodge Rural 7 and US Forest Service Type 3 organization.
Closures: Road closed at junction of West Fork Road / Ski Run Road. Travel on West Fork Road beyond closure is open to residents only. Ski Run Road remains open.
Travel to Red Lodge Mountain Ski Area is open with ski area operating today.
Structures Threatened: 30 structures threatened, no damage reported or structures lost. No evacuations are in place today.
Current Status: The West Fork Fire started on Saturday approximately12:30 p.m. from human causes. The fire was re-mapped today with low fire activity in the morning which decreased the estimated acreage from Saturday. Lower temperatures, cloud cover and low winds aided crews on the ground to bring containment to 20% this afternoon. No evacuations are in place. Carbon County Sheriff’s Office will alert residents of any changes in evacuation status.
Planned Actions: Additional resources will be ordered as needed and assigned to the fire when they arrive. Fire personnel will provide structure protection, build fire line and cool down hot spots into the evening.
Weather: Monday’s weather is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 65. South/southwest winds are expected 6-9 mph.
