The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Beaverhead Trails Coalition and Elkhorn Hot Springs have joined together to host this fun family event. Activities include snow shoeing or cross country skiing to stations that help you learn more about winter and wildlife. There will also be an opportunity for youth to learn about and begin the process to become a “Junior Snow Ranger”. There will be free coffee, hot chocolate and treats inside the Elkhorn Forest Service Cabin (located just above the hot spring pools). There will be a limited number of kid sized snow shoes available to try for free, or you can bring your own skis and snow shoes.
The Elkhorn Cross-Country Ski Trails are free to the public and open to both snow shoes and cross-country skiing. Adjacent to the cross-country ski trails are many miles of groomed snowmobile trails. So bring your family up for a fun day of learning, snowshoeing, and soaking.
All are welcome. To learn more about the “Junior snow Ranger” program, go online to:http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/conservationeducation/student-corner/junior-snow-ranger. For more information about the event call the Forest Service at (406) 683-3900.
