Welcome Center will no longer be staffed. Travel Oregon will continue to provide visitor information
services at the Oregon State Park owned facility.
The Forest recently conducted a review of its public service delivery program to identify necessary cost
savings and opportunities for increased efficiencies. The staffing change was determined to be the best
option to most efficiently provide the highest level of continued service to all customers served by the Gold
Beach Ranger District which extends roughly from the California-Oregon border north to the Port Orford
Bill Blackwell, Acting District Ranger on the Gold Beach Ranger District said, “The Forest Service recognizes
additional travel will be required for Brookings and Crescent City residents to obtain firewood, mushroom,
Christmas tree, or other special forest product permits. We are exploring different ways that we may be
able to provide limited services in the Brookings area at least temporarily, for several hours one day a
The Forest Service will continue to provide visitor information services, maps, fuelwood and special forest
product permits at the Gold Beach Ranger District Office which is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to
12:30 and 1:30 to 4:30. Forest information and services such as map sales and recreation permits are also
available on-line at http://www.fs.usda.gov/rogue-siskiyou .
