HUNGRY HORSE, MONT. – Due to concern for public safety, recreational sport shooting is prohibited effective immediately in the Coram Experimental Forest. This includes the discharge of firearms, air rifles and gas guns. This does not apply to people engaged in legal hunting activities. The Coram Experimental Forest is a research and recreation area in the Hungry Horse Ranger District.
This regulation is common across the National Forest System to protect visitors and resources. The Coram Experimental Forest is a high use area and close to population centers. The area has frequent use by mountain bikers, horseback riders, and legal Off-Highway use. It is also a study area for researchers.
This area is already off-limits to firewood cutting and removal, overnight camping and campfires. Off-Highway/Over-Snow Vehicles use must be on designated routes.
Violations are punishable by a fine of up to $5,000for individuals ($10,000 for organization), jail time of up to 6 months or both. Questions can be directed to the Hungry Horse Ranger District at406-387-3800.
