Forest staff recognized additional travel would be required for Brookings and Crescent City residents to drive to the nearest Forest Service office in Gold Beach to obtain maps, forest product permits and other services and they continued to pursue options to provide limited services in the Brookings area. Plans have now been finalized that enable the Forest to provide services at the Chetco Outdoor Store several hours every Friday.
Bill Blackwell, Acting District Ranger on the Gold Beach Ranger District said, “We explored different ways to provide services in the Brookings area, at least temporarily, one day a week. We are pleased to be able to serve Brookings area residents from the Chetco Outdoor Store. ”
Beginning April 5, Forest Service personnel will be on hand at the Chetco Outdoor Store, 16220 W. Hoffeldt Lane in Brookings Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Mushroom, firewood, Christmas tree and other special forest product permits, recreation passes and maps will be available for purchase.
The Forest Service will continue to provide visitor information services, maps, and special forest product permits at the Gold Beach Ranger District Office which is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 and 1:30 to 4:30.
