The High Lake Fire is estimated to be 100 plus acres and is located near Roads End Trailhead on the southeast side of the wilderness. The fire experienced increased activity and some growth Thursdayafternoon as it was influenced by increased winds over the fire area.
A second fire, the Pine Creek Mountain Fire, was discovered and staffed by crews early Thursday evening. The fire is located south of the Pine Creek Trailhead and is estimated to be 20 plus acres.
With the close proximity of the fires to one another they will be referred to as the Strawberry Complex.
As temperatures and fire activity increase, smoke columns will again be visible in the surrounding area.
For public and firefighter safety, please remain out of the area and be aware of increased traffic as crews travel to and from the incidents. Because of increased fire activity in the wilderness, officials are advising the public to not hike and or camp within the wilderness until conditions improve.
With lightning forecast for the area, crews will remain on alert and continue to be extremely busy as additional fires are discovered.
