The restriction covers an area approximately 1.4 miles wide and 3 miles long and falls between the north boundary of West Yellowstone, MT and the north bank of the Madison River near Bakers Hole Campground (T13S, R5E, Sections 11,15, 22, and 27).
“The shooting restriction surrounding the Boundary Ski Trail and falling between Hwy 191 and the boundary of Yellowstone National Park is to provide for public safety in and around the area during hunting season, specifically bison at this time of year,” said Cavan Fitzsimmons, Hebgen Lake District Ranger. “A popular groomed cross-country ski area with both classic and skate tracks, along with other developed facilities are located within the area.”
The shooting restriction closure order will be rescinded with the oncoming of spring; when snowmelt conditions prevent the use of the ski trails or the close of the bison hunting season, whichever comes first, or at the discretion of the Hebgen Lake District Ranger.
