The celebration event will include keynote speaker Bruce Whitmore, a local resident and retired school teacher who has been visiting the Boulder Cave area since the 1950’s.
“Boulder Cave is an extraordinary place and I would like to express my appreciation for the Forest Service’s investment in making the area a better place for recreation and an outdoor platform for great science and geology enjoyment,” Whitmore said.
Several activities are also planned for kids and adults at the event. Please bring sturdy walking shoes, water, and a flashlight if planning to hike to the cave.
The popular hiking and picnic area has been closed since July 2014 for site improvements including a new water system, new benches along the river trail, and expanded parking. Now that the trail has re-opened, visitors are able to take the short hike up to the cave, stroll along the river, and enjoy picnicking with friends and family members.
