This project is designed to accelerate development of larger trees and improve resistance and resilience from wildfire. Hand piles will be burned by fire crews in late 2013 or early 2014. The work will be accomplished by contractors using chain saws.
The northeast portion of National Forest System trail 353, indicated on Ridge to Rivers trail maps as trail 120, or the “East Side Trail,” will be used by the contractors and U.S. Forest Service vehicles to access the project area. Thinning and piling will occur at least 30 feet away from the trail between Bogus and Shafer Creeks.
The trail will be open to all users during implementation of the project and caution signs will be posted. Recreationists, including mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrian users, should be aware that they may encounter vehicles and hear or see thinning/piling activities in an area they are unaccustomed to disturbances.
