Fire managers on the Lodgepole Fire are planning a multi-stage blacklining operation on the north and east sides of the fire. The strategy is designed to prevent the spread of the fire to the area north of the West Fork of Morgan Creek and east of the vegetation change along the BLM-National Forest boundary. Firing operations will be spread over a five to seven day period depending on weather conditions and fire progression. The blacklining will commence near the junction of Forest Roads 055 and 057 (West Fork and Morgan Creek Roads) and proceed west along West Fork and then south near the National Forest-BLM boundary.
Crews have been preparing the fireline for several days by widening trails and removing fuel. About eight miles of two-track trails, dozer line and hand line have been prepared. A portable helicopter dip site is being established along Morgan Creek Road to supply water for aerial operations. Nine heavy and medium helicopters are currently assigned to the fire to aid in controlling the main fire and spotting.
