Fire crews and air support had another good day on the fire on 8/24. Fire line was constructed around the main body of the fire. Hand crews and air support worked together until early afternoon at which time air support was released to work on other fire incidents. All ground resources remain on the Ridge Fire. Fire behavior was moderate with occasional torching in the afternoon.
Today (8/25) crews are working to put hose lays around the fire and will be gridding in the vicinity of the fire for additional hot spots. Crews are also working to remove hazard trees that may pose a threat to firefighter/public safety as a result of the fire. Wind is forecasted in the vicinity of the fire this afternoon and crews will be working to hold and control fire lines that are currently in place.
The Fire Team and all of the firefighters would like to extend a big “Thank you” to the residents of Sumpter. Several local establishments have remained open for extended hours to help support firefighters and residents have made the team feel welcome in their scenic mountain community.
