The Bald Ridge area is located within the Absaroka Front near the Clarks Fork River, approximately five miles southwest of Clark and 15 miles northwest of Cody, Wyo.
The start date of the original seasonal closure, December 15, which began in 1996, was based on the end date of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s (WGFD) elk hunting season for Hunt Areas 54 and 65. The WGFD extended this hunting season through December 31 so that more cow elk could be harvested. The additional harvest was needed because the herd was exceeding the objective level established by the WGFD.
Subsequently, the WGFD, adjacent private landowners and members of the public requested that the BLM change the dates of the closure to coincide with the current elk hunting season in the Bald Ridge area.
