The event took a hiatus in 2014 while the National Park Service conducted a safety assessment for all sporting events held within the park. Death Valley NP hosts multiple events throughout the year, totaling more than 1000 participants, plus additional crew members. This year, permits for events include new safety guidelines to ensure safer conditions for all park visitors, employees, and participants.
Mike Reynolds, Superintendent of Death Valley NP, states “We are happy this iconic event has returned to Death Valley. We are looking forward to hosting these international athletes and ensuring a safer experience for all future events.”
