Effective in 2012, personal use firewood cutting within the boundaries of the Malheur National Forest is administered under IFPL, the same system as commercial operations.
Under IFPL2, the following may operate only between the hours of 8 pm. and 1 pm.
• Power saws except at loading sites; all power saw operators must stay in the cutting area for 1-hour after the chainsaw is shut off to watch for fire starts
• Cable yarding
• Welding or cutting of metal
Fire danger is currently rated High on the North Zone and Extreme on South Zone of the Forest. Public Use Restrictions are not in effect at this time and campfires are allowed on the Forest. Please remember to make sure your campfire is dead out and cold to the touch, before leaving the area. Please use extreme caution when outdoors and recreating on public land this time of year.
