RFPAs are non-profit organizations established to prevent and suppress range fires. They represent a collaborative effort among local private landowners, the BLM and IDL. Idaho State law recently authorized formation of RFPAs following the model of timber fire protection associations, which were created to save natural resources from wildfire.
“We are hoping to partner with BLM permittees and local landowners to expand the Saylor Creek RFPA,” said Bruneau Field Manager Tanya Thrift. “The field office area currently is not covered in any of the existing RFPAs. We look forward to the opportunity to work closely with the members of the SaylorCreek RFPA to enhance our wildland firefighting capabilities within the field office.”
